VirtualDub is a video capture/processing utility for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows platforms (98/ME/NT4/2000/XP/Vista/7), licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It lacks the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images.
Version 1.9.9 is now up, and is a stable release with queued up bug fixes; several of them are in the core filtering engine and a couple are in the AVI and Huffyuv handling code. As usual for a stable release, there are no new features other than a small diagnostic one (log specific errors when plugins fail to load on startup).
Requirements: Microsoft Windows 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Vista, Server, or newer; 80486 or higher CPU; 16MB of memory. This version will run on both x86 (32-bit) and x64 (64-bit) versions of Windows. Sorry, but there is no native version for Mac OS X or Linux.
